The lovely Jägala waterfall is only 30 minutes away from Tallinn. Visiting the spectacular waterfall in wintertime (December-March) is a fantastic experience. Often in winter, the temperatures drop to freezing, and the waterfall turns into a gleaming ice wall. During this time, the biggest natural waterfall in Estonia offers breathtaking views with its large icicles. Sometimes, it’s even possible to walk behind a wall of ice. After enjoying one of Estonia’s eight most photographed places, we have a cozy winter picnic with homemade pies. Tasting local Estonian schnapps and hot tea will keep you warm. The tour takes no more than two hours, so you have plenty of time to do sightseeing in Tallinn for the rest of the day. Read also about custom-made winter tours in Tallinn, Estonia.
Please keep in mind that the waterfall is not frozen in warm temperatures. It is still a beautiful site to visit all year round.

Tour Reviews
The waterfall hadn’t yet frozen when we saw it but it is wonderful to see it in full flow. The colour of the water is amazing. Our guide, Keidi, was very friendly and gave us lots of information about the waterfall and the area. We enjoyed the light picnic (meat, cheese and sweet snacks with tea and a ‘health’ drink). I understand that the waterfall is very busy with visitors in the summer. We were the only people there on our visit, so we were fortunate. Highly recommended.
Excellent tour to the waterfalls and through the surrounding areas. A very cute picnic set up with homemade food and fresh tea. Able to spend free time at the waterfall and our guide was very knowledgable!
We went at the beginning of December and the waterfall was not yet frozen, some icicles were forming though. We were lucky enough to have snow, which helped to create a magical scene. To see and hear the water flowing was still a great experience. Our guide Anu, pointed out sights and told us interesting facts during our journey. The picnic looked lovely laid out on a lace cloth, with hot peppermint tea to warm us. A trip worth booking.
Wonderfull Picknick infront of the waterfall. Relax and enjoy the narure 🙂
Easy pickup and back.
Great insights into estonian history, too.
We were picked up directly at the hotel. Another couple was with us on our tour. It took about 20 minutes to drive to the waterfall. On the way some of the things we passed were explained to us and also something about Estonian culture. We were there in mid-March, unfortunately the waterfall itself was no longer frozen, but there was still snow. It was probably still completely frozen until mid-February. It was still beautiful!
The picnic was small but nice. We hadn’t had breakfast and were full afterwards.
On the way back we took a slightly longer route past the television tower and something was explained to us again. There is a deduction for the price-performance ratio. For two hours and a few snacks, it’s a great price.
A fantastic personalised tour as we were the only 2 booked on for this day! The tour guide drove us in her car and pointed out lots of historical sights on route…once arriving at the waterfall she was happy to take photos of us for us and supplied a very local and handmade lunch of traditional Estonian food laid out with care on a cloth covered log..along with a taste of Tallinn’s traditional Vana drink. The only thing missing was a lovely log fire 😂it was definitely an experience we’ll remember and take a lot of Estonian history back with us Thank you 😊
